Great still life for this Theme!! I love the blue hues but also wonder what it would look like in b&w??
Willem_de_VL said 134 days ago:
That's just great, lovely curl of drilled out material repeating the winding of the drill.
Did you make this one for this weeks theme?
A horizontal 6x4 format of the bottom bit would work better for me, putting more emphasis on the curl instead of the drill.
Lovely. High marks indeed

This works very well. the blue tonig makes it a bit industrial, and I like

Very cool shot!

Thanks All!
Willem...I had actually done a few of these this past summer and just happened to stumble back here yesterday and saw the theme and remembered I had these.

Excellent!

Excellent interpretation. Just from the practical point of view: what the screw is doing there ;-) ? High marks

Amazing detail! Beautiful shapes and lighting. The bit of reflection is nice--makes me wish I could see more. Love how you show the winding spiral of metal as it is being created by the drill. Terrific for the theme. High marks!

AnnaG The metal shaving does look like a screw...lol...I hadn't really thought about that before.
Thanks again everyone.

Bonne idée, mais la partie droite de la photo me semble trop peu éclairée
CaptureThis said 131 days ago:
dallenogare...thank you. I deliberately went dark and used a lot of negative space for this one. I used an edge lighting approach to it.
This is actually a macro shot. The drill bit was about the diameter of a normal pencil.

Congratulations, Laurie!!

I wondered what was taking this one so long

Wow...thanks all. I am very flattered by your responses.
I'm sorry I haven't been around much. I was dealing with some computer issues since Saturday. I think I have everything all straightened out now and am back up and running again...I hope.

Holy bugger!! Laurie's back! Congrats and nice shot! :)

Yep It's me...Hi Dennis!!!
I've missed this place. It seems like a bit of a ghost town these days. I hope it picks up again. I plan on trying to participate more.
lbimaging said 128 days ago:
It's "ghost-townish" for sure compared to what it used to be. But this theme has been inspiring. So many good submissions!
The site definitely needs some changes to attract more people, and hopefully they'll be coming soon. Brandon's been so busy with other stuff. But if it consistently stays up and running, hopefully participation will just continue to increase.
Btw - did you use your lightbox for this shot or just light it in a darker area with a little off-camera-flash added?
sureshk_menon said 128 days ago:
Congrats Laurie!!
CaptureThis said 128 days ago:
Dennis I just used some very focused light from a little $12 high intensity flexible halogen reading light from Ikea and shot it on my dining table with a dark background...nothing fancy to the set up at all.
I have to credit Mark with making the prop. He got the aluminum plate and drilled it for me leaving the curls of aluminum coming out of the hole.

Congratulations, Laurie!
lbimaging said 128 days ago:
Nice! Thanks for the background info Laurie. :)

Another outstanding addition to this week's theme. Lots of winding going on in this example!
