If I recall, this is a single shot. Not a composite.
If you look at it a long time, you can find all the pieces to fit together. It's amazing.

Ana is correct. This is a single frame. It's a long exposure. There are two lights in this shot, a constant light and a flash. The constant light is used to illuminate the person near the wall, but it's a focused light so that as the person moves towards the camera, the person's movement is captured... without spilling light all over the place. Right before the shutter closes, the flash fires to freeze the mouth (rear curtain flash). I'm not real good at photoshop, so I do whatever I can to get the effect in a single photo... using flash, constant lights, or whatever is necessary to get the effect I'm after. Thanks for all the comments and ratings everybody.

Wow! It is a thought provoking image, to be sure. I have enjoyed it, but am also intrigued and puzzled by it. I look forward to further details from the photographer about the back story. The composition is definitely attractive and appealing.
